Reflections

Voice Thread
For this activity we had to each complete a voice thread activity, which included a brief question in which we had to respond to. What was unique about this was we didn’t just have to respond by typing it out. We had different options like talking into the microphone on are computer, typing a text, or even doing a webcam video. As a learner I thought it was a good idea because we didn’t have to stick with the simple pen and paper or regular paper on the computer. As a teacher we would be able to give out different objects for the students. As a learner I have noticed how important technology can be in the classroom. In my major Early Childhood education I don’t really think my students will be old enough to actually do voice thread, but I will incorporate different options for them to use on the computer instead of doing just pen and paper work.

Activity Chart
For this activity we had to complete a chart that had 8 different activities, there learning goals, and how we could incorporate technology in teaching the activities. As a learner it was very important to realize that technology is improving vast in everyday ways and as a student we need to adapt to the different ways to use technology. As a teacher it is a good idea to have different ways to do different activities with using technology. Sometimes since you are so used doing things without technology because that’s how we were brought up, it is good to realize and take note of different activities you could do to incorporate technology.

Debate Blog
For this activity, we had to do a debate online. We used Google documents to type between the people in our group, and then when we finished deliberating between our group we opened up a blog and were then able to debate between the pros and the cons of are selected topics. I thought this was a good way as a learner because I was able to do a debate online instead of speaking in front of a class. I often get nervous speaking in front of a whole group but this way it was a lot more comfortable. As a teacher this is a good way to also not bring as much emotion into it and actually have the student concentrate on their own opinion. Using this in the future I think I would be able to maybe incorporate using a blog for my students and parents and show what we did or talked about in class that week.

Symbaloo

For this activity we learned about different Personal Learning Environments and how the different ways we save the sites we search and look up. With Symbaloo you have a homepage and you have all your sites on icons and there sorted the way you want them. When you click on the icon you are immediately brought to a new page with the link of the website you bookmarked. As a learner I thought this was a good tool to keep track of all your websites, and keep it very organized. As a teacher I feel that this would work great with keeping everything organized as well. You could have this opened and everything that your lesson plan included could be on this website and just with one click your there to a page you wanted to teach your students that day. As a learner I think this is a great resource and will keep this is mind as I do papers and research projects instead of having a million emails and bookmarks on my computer. As a teacher I will keep this in mind to use in my classroom and also to use for my own personal use with the websites I think my students will enjoy.

Prezi

For this activity we learned about different ways to spice up your presentation and power-points instead of doing a normal power-point With prezi you can navigate it and make paths to connect your slides. It is very visual and really makes your power-point stand out. As a learner I thought this was a good idea because instead of making a normal power-point which may be boring you could make your power-point interesting an make the class really pay attention to what your doing. As a teacher I think this a good idea to give to your students as a project to do so the class isn't as repetitive with other classes. As a learner I will definitely keep this in mind in the future if I have to do presentations or even job interviews. I think this would make me stand out. As a teacher, I think my students would be to young to do this, but I could definitely show students presentations on this to keep there attention.

Web Quest

I really enjoyed this activity the most because I could really see myself using this in my very own classroom. This activity was a visual lesson plan/ project for the students to do but they follow and have all the links and information on a power-point for them to follow. Its made by the teacher and its very simple for the children to use, and it gives specific details throughout the power-point on what to do. As a learner I feel that it is more beneficial for younger students to do, for me I don't think I would get as much out of it as younger students would. As a teacher I feel like this would be a good tool for group work and also individual work as well. This will keep everything organized and since you made it you know the links are good to use. As a learner I really dont see myself using this in the future or taking part in it. As a teacher though I will definitely keep this is in mind in the near future. I could definitely see myself making two of these, one for fall and one for spring and having my students work on them together. I think these are very beneficial for students.

Vodcast

For this activity we had to make a vodcast or a how to video. I actually really enjoyed working as a group to make our vodcast. We all worked well together, and each had a specific part, and I think it turned out great! I always loved making movies; I had to make a few in high school, and a couple here at college. I think they allow us as learners to think out of the box. I think as a teacher this is a good tool not only to assign to your students, but also for you to make and also do an online lecture when the students are older. As an early childhood education teacher I really don’t see my students making there own video, but maybe together as a class we could put together a video of a slideshow of the whole year. Overall I really enjoyed doing this as a learner, and I think as a future teacher, I might be able to incorporate podcasts in my class, such as the end of year video.

Cool Tools

For this activity we had to inform students how to use any piece of technology in the classroom. Our group chose to present a presentation on the I-pad. Our group worked well together and we each had a different topic of what the I pad does and the pros and con of using the I pad As a student now I think I-pads can come in real handy. I don't have one yet because of the money, but I am hoping to get one soon to put my textbooks on the i pad and save money that way. I think as a a teacher this is a good tool to use in the classroom to use for different education reasons since there are a bunch of great applications. As a future teacher in Early Education and already doing many observations where they had I-pads in the classroom, I feel that they can become very useful and are becoming very reliable in 21st century technology. I would use these in my classroom if I was given the opportunity to have them classroom. They are very educational and provide good information for students of all ages.
